Real Stories

Thank you so much for helping my son with his new shoes, backpack and school supplies, he’s so very happy!

Marcos, age 8

Location: Mexico

Marcos loves school and would like to become a doctor or veterinarian when he grows up. Marco was born in a small indigenous village in the state of Veracruz. There, his mother made hand crafted bags out of palm tree leaves. Marcos’ father died and the income Marcos’ mother made selling the bags was not enough to sustain herself and her son.

Marcos’ mother decided to move to Nuevo León looking for job opportunities. There, she was able to find a job and remarried. Marcos family makes less than $100 a week with both parents working seven days a week and mostly twelve-hour days.

Emerson and Melany, 11 and 14

Location: El Salvador

Emerson would like to be a doctor when he grows up. His sister Melany dreams of becoming a school teacher. Their youngest sister is five years old and does not attend school yet.

Their parents are street vendors. They sell soft drinks in a cooler that someone gifted them to keep the drinks cold. They make less than $50 a week to support their family. With I Am Esperanza Foundation’s help, they had backpacks, classroom supplies, and some extra clothes for the new school year!

Helping Schools

Our foundation has sent essential resources to several schools in Texas, Mexico, and El Salvador.

These resources such as crayons, books, math manipulatives, dry erase boards, markers, pencils, paper etc. have helped the classroom teachers make learning fun for their students.

The schools that we are helping are located in very low-income areas of various cities in Latin America and South Texas.

What We Do

This foundation has 10 international members who are committed to this cause. We assess areas of need and we deliver the school supplies directly to the children. These 10 members are directly involved throughout the process.

Our Story

grandma-esperanza-photo@2x.png

When I was thinking about the appropriate name for the foundation, I thought about my grandmother and the great influence she had on my life and of course the meaning of her name Esperanza (Hope).

As a child, I remember my “abuelita” saying “La esperanza nunca muere” meaning; hope never dies. I have always known that there is hope for children who grow up with little resources, as I did, to continue with their studies. Through education, children can help themselves and their families, breaking the cycle of poverty.

I know that through every child that I Am Esperanza Foundation helps, my grandmother’s legacy of hope lives on.

I Am Esperanza Foundation is dedicated to her loving memory.
